WINTERWORKS Paper Cuts by Lucinda Clarke are interlocking images of insects, animals and trees made in the tradition of cut paper snowflakes. The resulting unique designs are presented in many forms. Individually cut designs are pinned and framed in shadow boxes or incorporated into mixed media assemblages. Handmade paper whose fibers add dimension and tactile quality are often used. The leaves which are embedded in the paper become part of the images. Designs are also cut from paper towels which are later painted to add rigidity, color and texture. Smaller paper cuts are laminated for use as bookmarks, mounted on hand painted paper as note cards and utilized as stencils on furnishings. Reproductions of designs are printed onto note cards and clothing.
